Metrics Reference

SegmentIQ tracks the following metrics for each customer segment. All metrics are calculated for the selected date range.

Know Your Segments

Revenue

Total revenue generated by orders in this segment during the selected period. This is the gross order total before refunds.

Orders

Total number of orders placed by customers in this segment.

Average Order Value (AOV)

Revenue ÷ Orders. The average amount spent per order in this segment. Compare AOV across segments to see which customer groups spend more per transaction.

Discount Rate

Percentage of orders that used a discount code (or automatic discount). A segment with a 75% discount rate means 3 out of 4 orders had some form of discount applied.

High discount rates aren't necessarily bad — but they may indicate that a segment has been trained to expect discounts.

Discount Cost %

Total discount amount ÷ Total revenue. This tells you what percentage of revenue is being given away as discounts. For example, if a segment generated £10,000 in revenue but £1,500 was discounted, the discount cost is 15%.

This is one of the most important metrics — it directly measures the margin impact of your discount strategy.

Revenue Share

Segment revenue ÷ Total store revenue. Shows what proportion of your total revenue this segment represents. Useful for identifying your most (and least) valuable segments.

Unique Customers

Number of distinct customers who placed orders in this segment during the period. Helps you understand segment size and whether revenue is concentrated among a few buyers or spread across many.
